Sean's new words and happenings

Since this blog is doubling as both a way to update family and friends and a journal of sorts, I like to keep up with what Sean is doing these days. Sean is 20 months and the time is just flying by.

He is talking so much now - saying new words all the time. Here are some of the new things he is saying (I am sure I will miss something):
-- baby -- Cow -- maymen(amen) -- Je Ju(Jesus) -- papa(Papa Bill) -- Jo Jo(Aunt Jo) -- har(heart) -- han(hand) -- bah(bath or the sound of sheep) -- ay(neigh for a horse) -- duh(duck) -- tar(star) -- tuh(stuck) -- go -- obal(oval) -- duhdo(circle) -- ahpul(apple) -- ham -- li(light) -- sli(slide) -- seen(swing) -- ju(juice) -- hada(hot dog)

He is now saying no deliberately when he does not want to do or have something. He is also still throwing tantrums when he doesn't get his way, but some days are much fewer than others.

His daily routine has changed a little, but is becoming pretty predictable. When he wakes he does one of two things. He either wants to eat or he wants to play with his puzzles. If he plays with puzzles, he will then eat after. If he eats first he will then play puzzles. Although he plays with puzzles both before and after eating. Then he watches Sesame Street and Elmo or one of his videos. Then on to coloring if we don't have to leave the house. Sometimes we play with other kids or run errands or just stay home. If it is not too cold I will let him go outside, but I did bring his slide in the house so he could play even if it is too cold to go out. He will alternate between coloring, books and other toys until lunch. I also have to spend time keeping him out of things (like the fridge, the toilet, lotions, the DVD player). If I put a new DVD in the player and there is already a DVD there, Sean will swoop in as fast as he can and stick his finger in the hole of the DVD and pull it out of the machine before I can get to it - it is pretty funny to watch.

We also play a little hide and seek - his new hiding place is in our bedroom closet under Steve's shirts. Then lunch and more puzzles then nap. After nap - snack and maybe a video again and his train or more books or cars. He asks for dada all day and when he hears the garage door open he waits by the laundry room door for dad. Then while Mommy cooks, he drags dad into his room for, yes, more puzzle playing with dad and wrestling. Then dinner and more wrestling and books and bath time and ready for bed and then sleep - whew! what a busy day!

Sean is also starting to be a real helper. He loves to help put the dishes away and get his plate for dinner. He loves to get out his milk (see previous entry). He will help with the laundry - putting the clothes in the washer and the dryer) and he helps me make the bed (mostly messes it up by getting under the sheets). He also is great at throwing things away - his napkin (which he wants to have because we use one at dinner), any kleenex we use for his nose, or anything he finds on the floor that should be trash. We have only had to stop him once or twice from throwing something away that should not have been thrown away. Now, when he does something wrong, we try to also get him to fix it, like he still is ripping the wall paper in his room (I can't keep pulling out his bed any further or he will be in the middle of the room - instead we are just going to remove it and paint). So we make him pick up the pieces that he ripped and throw them away. What a good boy!

Sean loves to get on Daddy's shoulders and play - you can see Steve's glasses are gone. Sean loves to grab Steve's glasses off and try to put them on. Steve finally gave up and took them off so he could play without worrying about them.


So this is how Sean will look in a couple of years with more hair??? Steve's parents have this wig (we don't know where they got it), but at some point everyone has tried it on for fun and had a picture taken!
