Train Trip to Glenwood Springs

For part of Memorial Weekend, we decided to take a train ride to Glenwood Springs, spend the night and then ride back the next day. We needed to get away and Sean loves trains so this was the perfect trip. Steve's parents have always wanted to ride a train so they traveled up from Tucson, AZ and joined us on the trip.

It was a quick, whirlwind trip, but we all loved the train - especially not having to drive. Sean loved the observation car and wouldn't sit in our assigned seat at all. I walked with him through the train and we ended up at the very back looking out the window behind the train. Sean got very upset that the back door wouldn't open!!

When we got to Glenwood Springs, we rode in what was probably the oldest taxi car to our hotel, got settled, ate lunch and then walked to the tram ride up to Glenwood Caverns. We rode the tram up and then just walked around up on the mountain. We really didn't want to do much so the only thing we did was ride the alpine roller coaster. Apparently, my father-in-law doesn't like roller coasters, but he did decide to go on this and loved it. Sean rode with Steve and Steve said he loved it and wanted it to go even faster!!! After the roller coaster we went down the mountain. The wind was blowing so much that they weren't operating the tram and we had to take a bus down the mountain. Sean even loved that and he spent the entire ride looking out the window.

After a nice Mexican dinner we walked to the hot springs pool and spent a fun evening there. Steve and I took turns being in the cooler water with Sean and going into the warmer therapeutic water. Sean loved it, as usual, and even went under the water a few times. The walk back to the hotel was long, but the weather was wonderful and we collapsed in our hotel exhausted after the long, fun day.

The next morning we got back to the train station to stash our luggage while we walked around downtown and looked at shops and such. Our favorite place to stop was the ice cream parlor and then we had a wonderful meal at what looked like a little hole in the wall restaurant called Juicy Lucy's Steakhouse, but was really rather classy and had great service and food. Then we enjoyed a leisurely ride back home. What a fun trip! Because we were just enjoying the day so much we really didn't take any pictures except at the train station.
